Mold clamps (also mould clamps) are clamping elements with a hole or an elongated hole for the mechanical fixation of various solid bodies on a work plate or holder. Mostly mold clamps are used for plastic injection molding machines and CNC machines.

1.       Mold clamps construction:
Mold clamps are made of long lasting through-hardened steel.
More durable than less expensive, case-hardened clamps.
Styles include Open End, Closed End, Socket and Oversize Hex Bolt.
Easy to install and adjustable—no spacers are required.
Washers are extra-large and made of hardened steel.

2.       The mold clamps mounting ways:
One end of the mold clamp rests on the body to be tensioned, while the other end rests on a base. The screw attached as close as possible to the workpiece is fastened at the lower end in a plate, measuring or machine table equipped with T-slots or holes. In most cases, the clamping force is applied by firmly tightening a nut. A faster change of workpieces enables lever-operated eccentrics attached to the screw. Hydraulic systems in connection with separate mold clamps are rather rare because automated operation is not possible.

The inclined position of the mold clamps, which is usually caused by the slightly different height between the workpiece and the base, is compensated for with large clamping forces using a spherical washer and a conical socket. Pendulum supports are available on the workpiece to compensate for inclined surfaces. This is also useful in order to avoid tensioning the workpiece and thus springing back after removal, which would result in a change in shape after shaping processing such as milling.

The shapes of the mold clamps are different and are specified in DIN standards. They are available in different sizes, in straight and cranked versions and with differently shaped clamping surfaces.

3.       The mold clamps are mostly including below styles:

Open-End Mold Clamps

Mold clamp for an injection molding machine

A mold clamp for an injection molding machine with a stationary mold clamping plate and a movable mold clamping plate displaceable on a sliding carriage, which mold clamping plates are arranged on a machine frame and support mold-halves of a mold for processing plastic material, on the sliding carriage side guide rollers are provided which are adjustable with eccentric bolts and are supported on the machine frame, an air clearance is provided between the movable mold clamping plate and the sliding carriage, which are connected with each other for relative movement there between by connecting elements and a vertical trunnion transversely displaceable to the machine longitudinal axis, and are secured together with fastening screws.
